City of Wells

The Medieval City of Wells nestles at the southerly end of the Mendip Hills. It’s

the smallest city in England (population 12,000) but can claim its City status

because of its magnificent 13th century cathedral. Its history goes back to Roman

times when it was probably important for its springs or wells from which the city

gets its name.  The springs can be found in the grounds of the Bishops Palace.
